Adrian Olivares, the first foreigner in the Menudo group, has died

Adrián Olivares, Mexican singer and former member of the band Menudo, died at the age of 48, his former partner Robert Avellanet confirmed through a post on Instagram, without giving further details regarding the reasons for the artist’s death.

Olivares is remembered for being the first foreign member of the Puerto Rican group, in which he participated between 1990 and 1993.

“I’m still in shock! Strength to his family. Happy transition for his soul. I will always remember his great sense of humor. We’ll meet there, brother. RIP Adrian,” Avellanet wrote on his Instagram account on July 8, along with a photo of Olivares when he was part of the group.

Mexican singer and actress Sylvia Campos, Olivares’ ex-partner, also reacted to the news of the artist’s death and shared a message on her social media, recalling the moments she shared with the musician.

For his part, Sergio Blass, who was also Olivares’ partner in Menudo, said goodbye to the musician with a message on his Instagram account.

“Fly high, little brother. And a lot of strength for your family. You were always mature for your age and your charisma was unmatched. You will always be one of the good guys and you will always live in our hearts,” wrote the artist.

Former Menudo members who have died

Adrián Olivaros is the third member of the band Menudo to die in the last four years.

The first was Venezuelan Édgar Antonio Galindo Ibarra, who died on October 3, 2020.

Ray Reyes León died on April 31, 2021. His relatives did not reveal details regarding the cause of his death.

During his time in the band, Olivares participated in the recording of the albums Behind your eyes y 15 yearswhich included songs that gained popularity throughout Latin America, such as “Bésame en la playa” and “Búscame.”

In 1993, the Mexican collaborated in the creation of the album Go figure, The album featured songs such as “Yo quiero bailar cerca de ti” and “Mil ángeles”. The latter was dedicated to a Peruvian fan who died of asphyxiation due to the crowd of people during a concert by the band in Peru.

That same year, Olivares left the band and continued with his musical career. He had recently participated in several interviews and documentaries regarding Menudo.

The group Menudo was founded in 1977 as a children’s band on the initiative of the Panamanian producer, of Puerto Rican parents, Edgardo Díaz. In total, 50 artists came to form this band throughout its history.

The first singers to form the group were the brothers Ricky, Carlos and Óscar Meléndez, and the brothers Fernando and Óscar Neftalí (Nefty) Sallaberry Valls.

Between 1990 and 1991, Venezuelan Jonathan Montenegro was also part of the Puerto Rican band, but he left the group due to “breach of contract, cruel treatment and emotional abuse,” according to publications in various media outlets.

Menudo, who is still active in the music industry, has sold 20 million records worldwide. Thanks to adaptations in several languages, they are also recognized in other countries such as the United States, the Philippines, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom and Canada.
