Ecuador begins construction of mega-prison, based on the Bukele model 2024-07-09 15:04:37

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced that the “Bukele model” would be applied in his country. The president announced a heavy-handed policy once morest terrorists and the construction of two mega-prisons similar to the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) that was built under President Nayib Bukele in El Salvador.

“Today we mark one of the most important milestones in our fight once morest terrorism and the mafias that have taken root in our country with impunity for decades,” said Noboa at an event marking the start of construction for one of these maximum security prisons. This prison will have a capacity for 800 prisoners.

At an international level, El Salvador has managed to position itself as a benchmark in terms of security thanks to President Bukele’s strategies, such as the Territorial Control Plan, the Exceptional Regime and the War on Gangs. These measures have caused El Salvador to become the safest country in the Latin American region. Likewise, given the successful results in El Salvador, multiple political figures at an international level are talking regarding replicating the “Bukele Model” in their countries.
