Foreign citizen charged with having copied documents from a Norwegian rocket company

According to the ruling, when the man was remanded in custody for two weeks on 29 June, the man in his 30s must have entered the company’s computer systems, without having access.

– He is still completely uncomprehending regarding the charges and does not plead guilty. My client believes it is not possible for him to have done what the police accuse him of, says the accused’s defense attorney Tor Haug to NTB on Monday.

Haug states that the man has been employed by ISAR Aerospace Norway, once morest whom he is now charged with data breach. The man was arrested on 27 June.

Copied information

Police inspector Steffen Ravnåsen in the Nordland police district says that the man had access to the computer systems, but that he was deprived of these rights.

– He has gained unauthorized access to the employer’s systems and copied information belonging to ISAR Aerospace, says Ravnåsen to NTB.

The police inspector does not want to comment on why he was deprived of his rights for the sake of the investigation.

The company produces launch vehicles that can launch satellites into orbit around the earth, and is building its own launch platform on Andøya.

– Utmost seriousness

In addition to the alleged intrusion into the computer system, the police believe that the accused downloaded malicious software onto a laptop computer belonging to the company. The man is charged with breaching section 204 of the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of a fine or imprisonment of up to two years. The police inspector does not rule out that the charges once morest the man may be extended.

– We take it very seriously. There is a lot of time-consuming work pending with the review of several electronic storage devices. Other and more serious offenses may come into play, says Ravnåsen.

The police have not decided whether they will extend the detention, which expires at the end of the week. The police’s security service (PST) confirms that they are aware of the case.

– We are kept informed on an ongoing basis by the Nordland police district who are investigating the matter, senior adviser Eirik Veum in PST to NTB.
