Islamabad Rescue Center to be converted into Rehabilitation Centre: Wildlife Board

Islam Abad Wildlife Board Raina Saeed, head of the rescue center in the federal capital, has demanded to make the rescue center run by the board an animal rehabilitation center.

Talking to Independent Urdu, he said that ‘We do not want animals to be sent to zoos, but they should be given full rehabilitation facilities.’

He said that ‘Marghazar Zoo of Islamabad was closed and Islamabad Rescue Center managed by Wildlife Board was built.

“The matter of this place is under hearing in court and we want this rescue center to be made a permanent home for animal rehabilitation.”

Raina Saeed said that he was caught from Muzaffarabad a few days ago Leopards was brought to the rescue center in Islamabad, where he is being treated and cared for.

“Currently more than 50 animals, including three leopards and 11 bears, are in the rescue center where they are being cared for,” he added.

He said that ‘our aim is to save the wild life in the country and provide them shelter.’

He said that the leopard caught from Muzaffarabad was stuck on the top of a tree where its tail was injured by branches.

‘Half of his tail had to be amputated but he is in better health now.’

Raina Saeed added that the animal will be released back into the forests of Muzaffarabad only following complete recovery.

‘The leopard is one year old and has perfect teeth and claws to hunt.’

He said that only such animals are kept in the center which are young or cannot hunt due to physical disabilities.

According to him, we do not want these animals to be sent to the zoo, but the matter of this place is under hearing in the court.

“It is our effort that the rescue center which was built at the same place following closing the Islamabad zoo should be made a permanent home for the rehabilitation of animals.”
