How to do the training if you were selected as a board member?

Various political actors in Venezuela have reiterated the importance of training the members of the table to effectively exercise its functions for the presidential elections of July 28, 2024.

Maria Corina Machado, opposition leader and head of Vente Venezuela, asked on Monday, July 8, citizens who were chosen in the National Electoral Council (CNE) draw as polling station members to take the course online or in person. In her opinion, it is a way to guarantee the vote.

“We must remember the very important work of the members of the board. If you were selected, get trained. We need you, but in order to be able to work as a member of the board, you must do the training,” insisted Machado in a video published on his X account (formerly Twitter).

Wanda Cedeño, coordinator of VotoJoven, reminded on Monday, July 8, that members of the board who do not take the course and do not print their credential will not be able to perform their duties.

“The CNE has not provided information to citizens regarding the campaign process and where we are in the elections,” Cedeño said in an interview with Union Radio.

How to train as a board member?

Citizens who were selected in the National Electoral Council’s draw as polling station members must undergo training in order to be able to perform their duties. To do so, they must choose to take the following steps:

-Register on the CNE Training System website www.ecap.cne.gob.ve

-Enter the website with your identity card number and password

-You must complete a six-module course online (all are on video)

-Take an exam to receive accreditation

-Print the accreditation

Another option to train as a polling station member is to go to the municipal centers indicated in the list that appears on the CNE website, which is divided by entities and municipalities.

Training for polling station members began on June 28 and will continue until July 27, the day before the presidential elections.

Journalist Eugenio Martínez, an expert in electoral matters, explained on July 4 through his social networks that there will be no polling station members abroad; instead, this task will be the responsibility of consular staff.

Board member and board witness, what is the difference?

The members of the table are chosen randomly by the CNE, while the table witnesses are nominated by a political party to represent the candidate and defend the votes of their party.

What is the function of the board member?

The Organic Law of the Electoral Process establishes that citizens selected as members of the table must comply with the following obligations:

-They must review and visit the premises assigned for the operation of the electoral table and confirm that the place allows the use of the authorized voting system.

-Receive the electoral material and verify that it is delivered in the quantities specified in the corresponding minutes

-Confirm that the electoral records, ballots, voting notebooks and other electoral material correspond to the voting center and the assigned electoral table

Voting table members must be present at the voting center at 5:00 a.m. on election day to form the electoral table.
