Caracas, Jul 7 (EFE).- Venezuelan presidential candidate Antonio Ecarri said on Sunday following touring a working-class sector of Caracas that if the Caribbean nation becomes polarized, the problems of basic and economic services will worsen.
“If Venezuela becomes polarized and enters into the extremism that they talk regarding, these serious problems that exist in these sectors can never be resolved,” the independent candidate said in a post on the social network X.
Ecarri insisted that the political conflict will bring “more poverty and revenge is what will bring more chaos.”
On July 4, the anti-Chavez candidate promised that, if he wins the presidential elections on July 28, his first measure as president would be to close the National Integrated Service of Customs and Tax Administration (Seniat), because he considers it a “symbol of corruption.”
“For years, Seniat has been synonymous with and a symbol of obstacles, corruption, sanctions, and closure for good Venezuelans, but together we can change this reality,” the opposition leader said in an acted-out video that he shared on social media.
In the images, which show the headquarters of Seniat and the candidate carrying out a simulated destruction of a concrete structure, Ecarri is seen being applauded by supporters, whom he invites to vote in the presidential elections to “settle the score” and “close” this institution.
Ecarri, a critic of the traditional opposition, has also promised to confirm the military leadership in their posts if he wins the elections, in which the main competitors are President Nicolás Maduro and former ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia, the standard-bearer of the largest anti-Chavez alliance.
