The UNAM Pumas were left without their first signing heading into the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga MX.
Paraguayan central defender David Martínez, who arrives from River Plate in Argentina, has reportedly not passed the medical tests, so his signing with the university team will no longer take place.
Through a press release, the Mexican club announced that the Paraguayan defender, who was already in the country, will not become its player because “it does not suit the interests of either party.”
“Club Universidad Nacional informs that since the signing of David Martínez is not in the best interest of any of the parties involved, the player will not be joining our institution,” the press release reads.
“I’m happy to join this club. I came from a very big club and I joined another very big one with a lot of expectations,” the player had said upon his arrival in Mexico a few days ago.
Lightning reinforcement
Through its “X” account, Necaxa announced the arrival of Argentine Agustín Palavecino, from River Plate in his country.
During his time at the “Millonario”, Agustín won six titles: the Professional League in 2021 and 2023, the Champions Trophy in 2021 and 2023 and the Argentine Super Cup in 2020 and 2023.
Palavecino arrives on loan with an option to buy from the Aguascalientes team.
