Injection presses – Choice of press and process optimization: Complete file

The transformation of plastic materials by injection consists of filling the cold cavities of a mold with molten plastic material, then demolding the part obtained following cooling and solidification of the plastic material.

Cavity filling is achieved by forcing molten plastic material under pressure into the mold cavities, also called cavities.

The temperature of the imprints is regulated to a value allowing the injected material to be cooled.

The injected parts, formed by the plastic material solidified in the impressions, are extracted from the mold thanks to the mold opening and an ejection device.

The cost price of injected parts is closely linked to the hourly cost of the press and the cycle time. The hourly cost depends on the choice of press and the cycle time results directly from the adjustment.

It is for this purpose that this article describes how to choose and use a plastic injection molding machine. A theoretical and practical approach to the choice of the number of cavities leads to the dimensioning of the press and the related engineering choices. The industrial and economic performances associated with these choices are specified. The detailed and rational techniques for adjusting the press are then proposed, explained and supported. The main quality problems related to the processes, their most common causes lead to the solutions and the most suitable adjustment modifications in the general case.
