Swimming is prohibited on two beaches in Riga

Swimming is currently prohibited in these areas, and appropriate information signs have been posted, and repeat tests will be conducted next week.

In turn, the eight official beaches of Riga have good water quality and the latest analyses have shown that swimming is possible in almost all other popular recreation areas near bodies of water.

At the official bathing areas, the Health Inspectorate checks the water quality at the beginning of each month, and the city’s Department of Housing and the Environment organizes monthly monitoring of the quality of bathing water at 24 popular recreation areas near bodies of water during the bathing season.

Although the water quality is good in almost all bathing areas, the municipality recommends using the official bathing areas in Daugavgriva, Vakarbuļļi, Vecāķi, Rumbula, Lake Babelītis, Ķīpsala, Lucavsala, Lucavsala Bay and the recreation area near Ķīšezers, as they are equipped accordingly and the safety of bathers is ensured by the rescuers of the Riga Municipality Police.

At the beginning of the swimming season, the Riga Municipality provided improved and updated infrastructure in swimming areas. In a number of places, new footbridges were built, benches, sun loungers and changing cabins were installed to improve accessibility for people in wheelchairs and parents with baby carriages.

In addition, the Riga Municipality reminds that in many places in the capital there are taps with free drinking water, which are supplied with water from the city water supply system – clean, high-quality, safe for use, which is regularly tested.
