Mayor B. Markauskas: the situation due to the flood has stabilized, one family has been evacuated

“It’s a little better, for at least the second hour of the day, the water level at Priekula and at Lankupii dropped by five centimeters, of course it’s not much, but since the embankments have not breached anywhere, the situation is still calmer,” B. Markauskas told BNS on Tuesday.

According to the mayor, one family from the village of Šilininkai was evacuated on Monday, because the water started flowing into the house, but there is no threat to more people in the vicinity. Also, one family from the same village left alone.

On Saturday, B. Markauskas announced on Facebook that the water level in the Minija river at Priekula exceeded the natural level due to the melting of the snow and continuous rainfall for several days.

In the municipality of Kretinga, the Minija also flooded, as did the Akmena river, but the municipality announced that the water level started to fall already on Saturday followingnoon.

In the crowd at Kartena on Saturday followingnoon, compared to the measurement data in the morning, the water level dropped by 6 cm and reached 491 cm (natural – 520 cm). The water level in Akmena near Kretinga also dropped by 6 cm and reached 398 cm (natural – 420 cm).

The crowd was also flooded in November, the water covered the homesteads of several residents. As of November 11, by decree of the mayor’s meeting of the Klaipėda district municipality, a municipal-level emergency situation has been declared in the territories of the Priekulė ward of the Klaipėda district municipality due to a natural hydrological phenomenon, when human life is at risk,
