Iran has asked Washington for help following the helicopter crash that killed President Ibrahim Raisi, a US government spokesman said Monday (20.5.24), without giving details.

“I won’t go into details, but the Iranian government has asked us to help them,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters, referring to the crash of the US-made helicopter carrying the Iranian president and seven others.

But he noted that the US was unable to provide that assistance, “mainly for logistical reasons.”

At almost the same time, briefing reporters at the White House, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Raisi “had blood on his hands” for supporting extremist organizations in the region and “being responsible for gross human rights abuses.” in Iran.

The US will continue to hold Iran responsible for destabilizing action, as Kirby called it, in the Middle East region.

Earlier, however, Washington had officially expressed its condolences to Iran for Raishi’s death.
