Man charged with attempted murder after possible stabbing in Trondheim

The police cordoned off an area in Midtbyen in Trondheim on the night of Saturday following a man was found seriously injured. The man was found on the pavement with chest injuries.

Volunteers at the scene performed life-saving first aid before paramedics arrived. He was then taken to St. Olav’s hospital.

The condition is serious, but unclear, the police said at 7.40am.

Found knife

Another man in his 20s was arrested shortly following the police arrived at the scene. Police attorney Anne Haave says VG that he is charged with attempted murder or complicity in attempted murder.

– We take into account that there may be several people involved. Then the investigation will hopefully reveal whether it is, says Haave.

The emergency services were notified of the incident at 2.10am on Saturday.

A knife was found near where the suspect was arrested, task leader Marie Fossen has informed Adresseavisen. The injuries to the person are also described as compatible with stab wounds.

The accused man is not injured, writes Adressa.

The man who has been charged was arrested following he initially refused to comply with a verbal order. However, he surrendered voluntarily when the police said they would use stun guns if he did not obey.

Many people in the area when the incident happened

Parts of Olav Trygvasson’s street were blocked off. There were many people in the area when the incident took place.

– We have interviewed at the scene, but also have a long list of witnesses that we have to get back to. We are also working to get video surveillance mapped, operations manager Trond Hangaas told Adressa.

There were many people on their way home from a night out on the town when the message came. That made the situation more challenging for the police.

– It is unclear and difficult for us to map what has happened, how many people are involved and how many are injured. This is the night of Saturday, people are drunk and then it is more difficult to get clarity on what people have seen, says task leader Marie Fossen.
