The Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman, announced this Monday the discoveries of seven natural gas and oil fields with a total production capacity of more than 28 million cubic feet of gas per day and more than 11.000 barrels of crude oil, reported the official Saudi news agency SPA.
The minister explained that the new deposits were discovered by the Saudi oil company Aramco, the most important in the world, in the east and southeast of the Arab kingdom, according to the agency.
“The Saudi Arabian oil company was able to discover two unconventional oil fields, an Arab light oil well, two natural gas fields and two sources of natural gas from the same well,” SPA highlighted.
He pointed out that, in the eastern region of the country, two unconventional oil deposits have been discovered; the first in the ‘Ladam-2’ well, with a capacity of 5.100 barrels per day and 4,9 million cubic million per day of gas, and the second in the ‘Al Faruk-4’ well, which generated 4.557 barrels of oil and 3,79 million cubic per day of gas.
Another discovery occurred in the ‘Mazaliy-62’ well, with a production of 1.780 barrels per day of light oil and only 0,7 million cubic million per day of gas.
The agency noted that in the Rub al Jali area, in the south of the country and one of the largest sand deserts in the world, two new sources of natural gas have been discovered in the same ‘Al Yahaq-1’ well; one produces 5,3 million cubic million of gas per day and the other 1,1 million cubic.
In addition, he pointed out that a new gas extraction point from the ‘Al Katuf-1’ well was discovered, with a production capacity of 7,6 million cubic million per day of gas; and another of 4,9 million cubic per day of gas in the ‘Asikra-6’ well, both also located in Rub al Jali.
The announcement of these discoveries comes one day following the Saudi state oil company Aramco signed contracts worth more than $25.000 billion for the expansion of its main gas network and for the development of the second phase of the gas field. by Al Jafurah.
Saudi Arabia has been trying for years to diversify its economy, heavily dependent on oil, and looking for new ways to generate energy, mainly all those related to gas and hydrogen.
