After the widespread controversy sparked by the statements of a couple regarding the disappearance of a newborn baby from inside the Mother and Child Hospital affiliated with the University Hospital Center in the city of Marrakech, the management of the concerned institution decided to interact with the issue and reveal its account of it.

In this context, the hospital administration, in a statement, categorically denied what was circulated regarding the couple receiving one newborn instead of twins, and their accusation that the hospital administration was “hiding the wife’s medical file that proves that she gave birth to twins.”

The administration explained that “upon the wife’s arrival at the maternity ward at the Mother and Child Hospital, the necessary examinations were conducted by the on-call medical team in accordance with the established procedures,” stressing that “it was found that she was pregnant with one fetus.”

The same source added that based on the condition of the pregnant wife, “she underwent a successful caesarean section and gave birth to one child,” stressing that what was circulated otherwise was merely “allegations.”

It is noteworthy that the husband concerned with the incident had reviewed the details of the issue in press statements, where he stated that his pregnant wife “had an ultrasound scan three times, all of which confirmed that she was pregnant with twins,” stressing that “on the third occasion, the local hospital informed me that I had to transfer my pregnant wife to Mohammed VI Hospital in order to receive the necessary medical care.”

When he went with his wife to Mohammed VI Hospital, the same person confirmed that “the Mohammed VI Hospital staff informed us once more that my wife was pregnant with twins, following they had performed four ultrasounds to ensure the safety of the twins,” adding that “on the day my wife was due to give birth, and following performing the necessary tests and examinations, the doctors and nurses told me to convince my wife to have a caesarean section due to her serious condition.”

The same speaker explained that “his pregnant wife was transferred to the emergency room,” noting that the hospital told him to “return the following day to check on his wife,” noting that he “returned immediately to the hospital, before one of the nurses informed me that my wife had given birth to twins and that both were in good health.”

The same speaker pointed out that “he was surprised the next day when he went to the hospital with his family to find that there was only one baby.” When the case reached the police and they arrived at the hospital, the declarant recorded that “the doctor who performed the caesarean section on the wife had been changed,” as the latter tried to convince him that the wife “had only given birth to one fetus, contrary to what the medical examinations showed, and that the matter was nothing more than a mistake by the doctor who performed the ultrasound on the mother.”

Accordingly, the husband asked the hospital administration to “bring him his missing fetus, and to provide him with the wife’s medical file, which proves that she was pregnant with twins,” accusing the same administration of “insisting on hiding his infant son.”
