Smart meters proposed as a tool to reduce energy loss and improve energy efficiency

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, and the Vice Minister of Industry, Lorena Méndez, attended the official presentation of the firm NuriFlex Paraguay, manufacturer of AMI smart meters, which aims to innovate and develop the digitalization of smart electricity networks in the country, with its advanced meters.

The event was also attended by the Korean ambassador to Paraguay, Chan-sik Yoon, and the head of the Vice Ministry of Commerce, Luis Elías Bellasai, among other representatives of the public and private sectors.

The NuriFlex factory in Paraguay, located in the city of Mariano Roque Alonso, is a Korean-Canadian company with plans to expand into the regional market of countries such as Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, an initiative that positions Paraguay as a local production hub under the maquila regime.

The head of MIC recalled the first key meeting between the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and the company’s representatives in April of this year, on which occasion the smart meter project was presented, an initiative aimed at revolutionizing the electrical sector in the country.

Giménez highlighted the speed with which negotiations for the establishment of the company have evolved, which can make its official presentation in three months. He also referred to the importance of using advanced technology in energy matters, since it promises a significant reduction in losses and a more efficient use of energy.

Innovation and development

Giménez also stressed that the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is promoting laws to encourage the establishment of high-tech industries, seeking to transform the sector and attract more investments to the country.

He also highlighted the joint efforts made with the National Electricity Administration to combat illegal installations and improve efficiency in energy management.

For his part, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Paraguay, Chan-sik Yoon, said that the arrival of the company NuriFlex in the country will bring innovation and development, especially in the digitalization of smart electricity networks.

He said that its presence is expected to contribute to local development through job creation and knowledge transfer. He said that in collaboration with South Korea in the field of meters, AMI will promote the modernization of the energy sector in Paraguay.

At this point, he pointed out that it represents much more than the installation of a new factory, because it is a door that opens to endless opportunities through a deep commitment to local development through job creation and knowledge transfer. He said that Nuriflex will create an innovation ecosystem that will benefit the entire Paraguayan community.

He also assured that each smart meter manufactured here will be a testament to the capacity of Paraguayan workers and the synergy between both nations.
