Israel has “detailed, significant, even surprising plans” to deal with Hezbollah, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said during a visit to the headquarters of the Israeli armed forces’ (IDF) Northern Command.
“However, I do not share these plans with the enemy,” Netanyahu added, clarifying that the plans have two goals: to restore security in the north and to allow citizens to return to their homes.
At the same time, in a statement issued by the office of the Israeli Prime Minister, it is rejected that the claim that Netanyahu received an early warning from the secret services of the army regarding a possible attack from Gaza, Not only was there no warning of any kind regarding the intention of Hamas to attack to Israel from Gaza, but a completely opposite assessment was given, the statement added.
Two references to Hamas in four intelligence documents indicate that Hamas did not want to attack Israel from Gaza and favored a peaceful settlement, the statement claimed, adding that the first reference, from March 19, 2023, noted that the strategy of Hamas “leaves Gaza on the sidelines” and focuses attacks on Israel from elsewhere. Always according to the office of the Prime Minister of Israel, the second report from May 31, 2023 recommended that Israel join the “regional trend of de-escalation” and “take a step towards a peaceful settlement with the Gaza Strip and the ruler of Hamas”.
“All the security bodies consistently supported these assessments that Hamas was not interested in escalation but in an agreement with Israel and that Hamas was demoralized,” it noted.
