It is believed that PDIP will not nominate President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) son-in-law and Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution in the 2024 North Sumatra (Sumut) Gubernatorial Election (Pilgub). It is very likely that PDIP will form a new axis to compete with Bobby Nasution.

“I also see that PDIP will be clear, it will not be with Bobby, because Bobby is Jokowi’s son-in-law and in today’s political context, PDIP will be at odds with Jokowi, will be at odds with Bobby, so PDIP will build another coalition,” said political observer Ujang Komarudin, in Jakarta, Saturday (6/7).

Ujang assessed that PDIP’s political stance, which is different from Jokowi’s, is an obstacle to joining other political parties to nominate Bobby as North Sumatra 1. Political parties that have expressed their support for Bobby include the Golkar Party, Gerindra Party, NasDem Party, PAN, and PKB.

“It’s not regarding closing the door, I used to say go ahead for anyone, including Mas Bobby,” said Said.

Said reminded all parties to respect PDIP’s choice. Even though it is not Bobby who is being promoted.

“At the same time, respect us too if it turns out that we have our own candidate,” said Said.

The same thing was conveyed by the Chairperson of the PDIP DPP, Puan Maharani. She said that her party is still open to the possibility of supporting Bobby in the North Sumatra gubernatorial election. However, PDIP has not yet determined who will be pushed to become a gubernatorial candidate. (Z-8)
