Latvian resident who suffered from Covid vaccine will be paid 10,000 euros

The LETA agency reports that the corresponding draft order was presented by the Ministry of Health.

On 17 June this year, the GAL decided to award compensation in the amount of 10,000 euros for moderate harm to the patient’s health caused by side effects of the Spikevax vaccine once morest Covid-19 infection.

It is reported that the funds will be allocated from funds redistributed during the execution of the annual state budget.

The State Agency for Medicines makes decisions on compensation payments. According to the law, an application for compensation payment can be submitted no later than two years from the date of detection of damage, but no later than three years from the date of vaccination.

Compensation may be claimed by those people who have been vaccinated in Latvia with a vaccine registered with the European Medicines Agency, and the harm caused to health or life is directly related to a side effect caused by the vaccine, which is indicated in the instructions – if the side effect results in persistent or long-term health problems, due to which the patient does not regain self-care and functionality for at least 26 weeks.

GAL notes that the number of applications for compensation is decreasing this year.
