Benmoussa reviews the most important measures of the Ministry of National Education to accelerate the generalization of teaching the Amazigh language

Today, Wednesday, in Rabat, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, reviewed the most important measures taken by the ministry to accelerate the pace of generalizing the teaching of the Amazigh language at the organizational, pedagogical and training levels.

During his chairmanship of the opening of a study day on the topic of “Teaching the Amazigh language in the education and training system: the dialectic of generalization and improvement”, alongside the Dean of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, Ahmed Boukous, Mr. Benmoussa reiterated the keenness to communicate between teachers and children in the early education stage in the mother tongue, in addition to integrating the Amazigh language into the central and decentralized services of the ministry.

A statement from the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports stated that Mr. Benmoussa stressed on this occasion that this study day represents an opportunity to open bridges of communication, consultation, coordination, exchange of experiences and expertise, deepen collective thinking and unify visions among the various actors and stakeholders, in order to find possible solutions to the various issues concerning the teaching of the Amazigh language.

He added that it is also an opportunity to formulate proposals and recommendations to be invested within the ministry’s strategy to develop the status of the Amazigh language and improve the quality of its teaching and learning in Moroccan schools, and thus win the bet on generalization and improvement.

This study day is part of the continuation of the implementation of the workshops for the gradual generalization of teaching the Amazigh language in primary education, as it is a main component of the authentic, unified Moroccan identity and an official language in the country alongside Arabic. It also comes in line with the objectives of the 2022-2026 roadmap, which stipulates in the seventh objective of the second commitment to expand the teaching of the Amazigh language in primary education with a view to achieving generalization in all educational institutions by the year 2030.

The organization of this study day also aimed to shed light on the subject of teaching the Amazigh language and the challenges of developing it in the national education and training system, and to study the various issues and prospects related to developing its status, whether in terms of generalizing it in school education or in terms of improving the teaching process.

This study day, which witnessed the participation of a number of cadres, professors and educational inspectors, witnessed the organization of two interactive workshops, the first of which focused on the generalization of teaching the Amazigh language, and the second was devoted to improving its teaching in the education and training system.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports is working on the gradual generalization of teaching the Amazigh language in primary education with the aim of achieving generalization during the 2029/2030 school year, where care is being taken to increase the number of jobs for Amazigh language teachers, review the curriculum for it in primary education, and program and implement educational activities that would introduce and promote the Amazigh language and encourage its use, in addition to supporting the capabilities of public and private education teachers in the field of teaching the Amazigh language.
