Bollywood actor Akshay Kumaranden Premier League (IPL) team has saved Delhi Daredevils (DD) from a heavy loss. For the survival of the team, Akshay ended his contract with the team, which resulted in him having to forego a compensation of crores of Indian rupees.
According to the newspaper Indian Express, Akshay was ready to waive the compensation immediately, although his team was not fully convinced in this regard.
In his autobiography ‘Pitchside: My Life in Indian Cricket’, renowned cricket administrator Amrit Mathur has detailed how Akshay spent three years with the Daredevils to shoot the team’s promotional films, attend receptions and other events. Signed the agreement.

Akshay’s lawyers said that no changes were allowed in the contract. He insisted on full payment. Mathur writes that ‘Given the disastrous financial results and frugality, film stars became a financial liability that might be avoided. Knowing that no legal recourse was available, the team appealed to Akshay for mercy.’

Mathur said he had a responsibility to solve the problem. He recalled how he met Akshay Kumar during the shooting of ‘Chandni Chowk to China’. When Mathur told Akshay regarding the team’s financial problems, Akshay’s response was, ‘No problem, ji. If it’s not working, let’s end it.’ I felt that I did not hear him properly.’
Mathur further said that ‘Seeing me hesitant, he gently said, “Let’s end it.” When I spoke regarding the strict terms of the contract, he re-assured, ‘No problem. I will speak to the laird.’
