Scientists Say It Shouldn’t Be Ruled Out
The Earth still holds a few unknownsJoin the conversation
It may seem confusing, but there are serious studies that confidently discuss the existence of aliens. Ufology is not just an internet fringe for conspiracy theorists, it has always been a niche area of study for science. Especially when considering that our existence isn’t likely a unique occurrence in the vast universe. This has always led to the belief that there might be other intelligent alien species inhabiting the universe. However, what if they were already living on our planet? A study by scientists from Harvard and Montana State University suggests that we cannot rule out this possibility.
There Could Be Aliens on Our Planet
A study published in June 2024 in the journal Philosophy and Cosmology examines the “cryptoterrestrial hypothesis” (CTH), a theory that has always generated intrigue and controversy around the origin of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). UAP is the new term for UFOs and other inexplicable phenomenon.
The authors, Tim Lomas, Brendan Case, and Michael P. Masters (the first two from Harvard University and the last from Montana Technological University), believe that while CTH is likely false, it deserves serious scientific consideration due to the perplexing nature of some UAP reports. CTH proposes that UAP might be the result of hidden intelligent beings on Earth, whether living amongst us, underground, or underwater. This implies that UAP are not advanced secret human technology or alien visits but rather the activities of beings already inhabiting our planet. This idea is intriguing considering the discovery of spheres on the seabed and other objects whose origin remains a mystery. Some believe these objects, like the noises of a nearby truck that were initially misinterpreted as alien technology, might be related to these hidden beings.
While the researchers acknowledge that the theory is likely false, they insist that it is worth exploring rigorously.
The study investigates several areas of research and evidence that might support CTH, including the limitations of our historical and geological knowledge, legends and myths of lost civilizations, evidence of ancient and complex underground structures, folklore traditions of “magical” beings living in hiding, and reports of UAP activity associated with underground or underwater locations. While these might be circumstantial evidence of these beings living amongst us, they are not conclusive, as there are other explanations for most of these phenomena. There are four main versions of CTH: human cryptoterrestrials, hominid or theropod cryptoterrestrials, extraterrestrials or time travelers hidden on Earth, and “magical” cryptoterrestrials similar to fairies or elves found in some mythologies.
The study does not state that CTH is true but argues that it should not be dismissed without proper investigation. More than a genuine interest in this topic, it is a call for humility in the pursuit of knowledge. In essence, the article is more philosophical and methodological, and it does not actually endorse the CTH theory.
This study is part of a growing trend in scientific research to seriously examine the UAP phenomenon. Moving away from fringe theories, researchers are seeking a truly scientific approach to deeply intriguing questions. This transition is moving away from ridicule and towards an exhaustive analysis of these phenomena to gain a better understanding. They strive to address such serious questions with an open mind, while always favoring theories that are more logical and explainable than CTH.

The Earth still holds a few unknowns
It may be truly confusing, but the truth is that today There are serious studies that speak clearly and confidently regarding the existence of aliens. The ufology It is not a field that is only intended for the deepest part of the internet and is run by those who accept conspiracy theories, but rather It has always been a niche of study for science. Especially if we take into account that we cannot be absolutely unique in the Universe if we accept that our existence is random. For this reason, it has always been thought that There might be other intelligent alien species populating the universe. However, what would happen if they really lived on our planet? Now a study carried out by scientists from Harvard and Montana State University claims that We cannot rule out that this might have happened. or that was happening right now.
There might be aliens on our planet
A study published in June 2024 in the journal Philosophy and Cosmology examines a hypothesis that has always aroused both controversy and intrigue regarding the origin of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP, the new way of determining UFOs and other phenomena): the cryptoterrestrial hypothesis (CTH).
The authors, Tim Lomas, Brendan Case and Michael P. Masters, the first two from Harvard University and the second from Montana Technological University, consider that although HCT is probably fake, it deserves serious scientific consideration given the puzzling nature of some reports of FANI. HCT is a theory that argues that FANI might be the result of activities of intelligent beings hidden on Earth, whether among us, as living underground or underwater. In this way, the FANI would not be advanced and secret human technology or alien visits but they would actually live here. Something that is striking if we take into account the discovery of spheres on the seabed or other objects whose nature has been quite controversial and which some believe to be would have been misinterpreted by the noises of a nearby truck.
Again, it should be noted that the researchers themselves believe that this theory is false, but they assure that It is worth giving it the importance it deserves.
The study examines several lines of research and evidence that might support HCT, including:
- The limits of our historical and geological knowledge: Perhaps there are hidden civilizations that have escaped our historical records or that are located in unexplored areas of the planet.
- Legends and myths of lost civilizations: Many cultures have records of beings who lived underground or underwater, which might be interpreted as evidence of HCT.
- Evidence of ancient and complex underground structures: There are numerous underground structures of unknown origin and purpose, which might be evidence of hidden civilizations.
- Folklore traditions of "magical" beings living in hiding: Many cultures have stories of fairies, elves, and other supernatural beings that may reflect hidden societies.
- Reports of UAP activity associated with underground or underwater locations: Some reports of UFO sightings have linked them to underground or underwater locations, further fueling the HCT hypothesis.
All of these might be unavoidable evidence of the existence of these beings living among us, but they are not conclusive since The vast majority have quite a few explanations. There are four distinct versions of HCT so far:
- Human cryptoterrestrials: This theory posits that there are advanced human civilizations living in secrecy, perhaps with advanced technologies we haven’t discovered.
- Hominid or theropod cryptoterrestrials: This theory suggests that there are other intelligent species living secretly beneath the surface, potentially related to ancient hominids or even extinct dinosaurs.
- Extraterrestrials or time travelers hidden on Earth: This version of HCT proposes that aliens may be living among us, either arriving from elsewhere or perhaps traveling through time.
- "Magical" cryptoterrestrials similar to fairies or elves: This theory explores the possibility that the mythical beings of folklore may be real, and they are living hidden lives.
The study does not claim that HCT is true, but argues that should not be dismissed without proper investigation. More than a real interest in this issue, it is a call to humility regarding the study of knowledge. In this way, we are faced with a most philosophical article and regarding methodology that something that really affirms the approval of the HCT theory.
This study joins a growing trend within scientific research that seriously examines the phenomenon of UAF, moving away from the craziest theories and trying to carry out a truly scientific reflection on deeply interesting questions. In this way, it moves from mockery to an exhaustive analysis of these phenomena in order to find a real understanding. They seek to address such serious questions from a open mentality, although always supporting theories that are much more logical and explainable than those of HCT.
