Porzingis fails to avoid surgery and is out of the Olympics.

Without the extraordinary expectation that was experienced last year with Victor Wembanyama, the NBA is celebrating its 2024 Draft today with interesting names such as Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr among the candidates to be in the top spots.

This year’s draft comes with an important change, as for the first time the NBA will divide it into two days: on Wednesday the first round players will be chosen and on Thursday it will be the turn of the second round players.

The Barclays Center in New York, home of the Brooklyn Nets, will host the first game tonight.

The second day will be a much less media-friendly event, taking place tomorrow at the ESPN studios also in the “Big Apple”.

The 2023 Draft was historic due to the arrival of a generational prodigy like Wembanyama.

It was already known that his destination would be the San Antonio Spurs, since no team in the league would be crazy enough to turn down such an opportunity with the number one pick, but the draft was still held with enormous expectations that had not been seen since the arrival of LeBron James.

The French: Zaccharie Risacher (born in Malaga, Spain) and Alex Sarr, the main contenders to hear their name called when the Atlanta Falcons announce their selection, since they have the number one pick.

Additionally, other names with possibilities of being high in the Draft are Reed Sheppard, Stephon Castle, Matas Buzelis, as well as Donovan Clingan.

Behind Atlanta, with number one, in this order of selection, are the Washington Wizards, the Houston Rockets, the Spurs and the Detroit Pistons.

All NBA teams and fans are eagerly awaiting the name Bronny James, son of star LeBron James, to be mentioned in this draft.

He misses the Olympics

Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis, who played with a rare left leg injury in the NBA Finals, will undergo surgery “in the coming days” and will miss the Paris Olympics.

Porzingis suffered a torn retinaculum and a dislocated posterior tibial tendon in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on June 9. He missed Games 3 and 4, but returned in Game 5 as the Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks to win the title.

The player had hoped to postpone surgery until following he had competed with Latvia in Paris, but it was the Celtics who announced in a statement that this injury “does not allow for consistent play at the level required for Olympic competition.”

The recovery process is expected to take “a few months.”— ESPN and EFE
