French player Kylian Mbappé declared this Thursday that he is “It is urgent to go and vote” following the “catastrophic results” of the first round of the French legislative elections.
“More than ever, we must go out and vote. It is really urgent. We cannot leave the country in the hands of these people, it is really urgent. We have seen the results, it is catastrophic,” said Mbappé, who is in Germany, where France faces Portugal in the quarter-finals of the European Championship on Friday.
Mbappé was speaking ahead of France’s Euro 2019 quarter-final once morest Portugal in Hamburg on Friday.
President Emmanuel Macron called for early elections following the defeat suffered by the National Rally in the European Parliament elections last month, betting that the far right would not repeat its success in a national election. The plan failed and Le Pen’s rivals are now desperately trying to prevent the National Rally from winning an absolute majority in Sunday’s run-off.
France’s players have been regularly asked regarding the political situation in their country during Euro 2024 press conferences.
