The Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASP) is joining Riga Stradins University (RSU) as of today, according to a cooperation agreement signed in April by the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), the Ministry of Health, LASP and RSU.
The process of consolidation of universities is envisaged for a two-year transition period. During this time, all measures financed by consolidation grants will be implemented, and the educational and scientific infrastructure and processes of the LAS will be adapted to the standards of a scientific university.
After the reorganization, LASP will retain its academic and scientific autonomy, name and symbols.
In turn, RUS will assume all rights and obligations that apply to LASP, developing a coordinated development strategy and creating a unified system for studying health and sports sciences.
As reported, the reorganization of the LASP was previously planned to be completed by January 1, 2026, but the Ministry of Education and Science proposed to complete it by July 1 in order to eliminate the risk that the funds of the EU recovery and sustainability mechanism will remain unused.
