National airline Garuda Indonesia confirmed it is ready to send a replacement aircraft following the incident. Return to Base (RTB) on flight GA-6239 with the Solo-Jeddah flight route. Garuda Indonesia President Director, Irfan Setiaputra explained that the Airbus 330-300 aircraft was supposed to be flown to Jeddah to serve the repatriation phase of Indonesian hajj pilgrims to their homeland. However, the aircraft returned to Adi Sumarmo Solo airport, Central Java, because there was a technical problem with one of the engines so that it was required to be checked once more.

“Flight GA-6239 departed from Solo following undergoing routine aircraft inspection procedures by the lessor and related teams. Shortly following the aircraft took off, the Pilot in Command (PIC) found an indicator cockpit “which indicates the condition of one of the aircraft engines that requires further checking, so that the PIC then quickly decides to carry out the RTB procedure to Solo,” said Irfan in an official statement, Wednesday (3/7).

The aircraft with registration number T7-MMM was carrying 14 crew members consisting of 3 cockpit crew and the 11 cabin crew members have returned to Adi Sumarmo Airport, Solo, at 21:07 local time. The aircraft crew carried out the disembarkation process in accordance with applicable security procedures.

“Garuda Indonesia has also coordinated with the relevant aviation authorities to ensure follow-up aircraft handling including procedures for towing the aircraft to the parking stand to ensure there is no operational impact from the RTB incident,” said Irfan.

Furthermore, currently Garuda Indonesia has also optimized the mitigation of replacement aircraft to serve the operational hajj flights during the return phase from Jeddah.

“We certainly ensure that the readiness of the replacement aircraft has gone through a series of comprehensive fleet airworthiness inspection procedures before being flown back to Jeddah early this morning, in line with our commitment to always prioritize safety aspects in all flight services,” he concluded.
