Paris Olympics: Faiqa Riaz committed to represent Pakistan in 100m race

Pakistani sprinter Faiqa Riaz Paris The Olympics Representing the country in 2024 is determined to improve performance in the 100m race.

One of them is first-time Olympic wildcard (quota) sprinter Faiqa Riaz, who used to train alone at the Punjab Stadium but has now been given a coach and camp facility.

Faiqa Riaz has been training alone for two hours in the evening session at the Punjab Stadium these days and will leave for Paris on July 24.

According to the Pakistan Olympic Association, the WAPDA department was asked to provide a coach, following which Sammy Rizvi was appointed as the coach for Faiqa while Dr. Mysthaq Rizvi was given the responsibility for physical fitness.

Pakistani sprinters are happy to get the facility of coach and camp, albeit late. Speaking to Independent Urdu, he said: ‘If I had got the coach and the camp facility earlier, the performance might have improved further.’

Faiqa said: ‘I won the first position in the Attock National Games, so I got a chance to participate in the Paris Olympics under the wild card quota. I hold the record of running 100m race in just 11.70 seconds. Now I am trying to improve it more during training.’

Faiqa has an MSc in Commerce and plans to enroll in an MPhil following the Olympics.

She said: ‘Most girls in Pakistan don’t get family support, which affects their talent, but I have full family support, which boosts my motivation. My father wishes that I win gold medal in Olympics and make the country famous.’

Apart from Faiqa, athlete Arshad Nadeem has also qualified for the Paris Olympics and will represent Pakistan in the javelin throw events.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s adviser Rana Sanaullah has said that out of the 24 crore population of Pakistan, only three or four athletes qualify for the Olympics, which is unfortunate. We need to promote sports more.’
