Coraline author Neil Gaiman accused of sexual assault | Two women have reported violent encounters with the writer

British writer Neil Gaiman, author of works such as Sandman and Coraline, has been accused by two women of sexual assault, for events that occurred in 2003 and 2022, according to an investigation by Tortoise Media.

The women told the British media regarding their experiences in the podcast “Master: the allegations once morest Neil Gaiman,” which consists of four episodes.

The first complaint was made by Scarlett, a former nanny of his son, who claims to have been sexually assaulted by Gaiman in February 2022, hours following they met, in the bathroom of his residence in New Zealand.

Scarlett, then 23, told Tortoise Media that she dated the writer for three weeks and that during their relationship Gaiman engaged in “violent and degrading penetrative acts.”

The second complainant, identified as “K,” told the British outlet that she met Gaiman, of whom she was a fan, at a book signing in Florida in 2003. “K” and Neil began dating when she was in her 20s and he was in his late 40s.

According to the woman, during their relationship she was subjected to violent and painful sexual acts that she “did not want or enjoy.” She also said that on one occasion when she was suffering from a painful infection, the writer “violently penetrated” her once morest her consent.

Gaiman, the author of fiction, novels, comics, graphic novels, nonfiction, audio drama, films and cartoons, denied both allegations.

In response to Scarlett, Gaiman claimed that “they hugged and kissed” in the bathroom, that there was consent for these actions and that the rest of the relationship included “consensual digital penetration.” As for “K’s” complaint, he denied any illegal behavior and suggested the possibility that the accusations were motivated by the woman’s regret regarding the relationship.

New Zealand police, meanwhile, confirmed to the outlet that a complaint had been filed once morest Gaiman. The complainant said he had offered his assistance to the police in 2022 but that it was not accepted.

Authorities also noted that there were “several attempts to speak with key individuals as part of this investigation and those efforts are ongoing,” while clarifying that “there are several factors to consider in this case, including the location of all parties.”
