The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is sending a stern message to Albania in the shadow of the removal of Fredi Beleris as mayor of Heimarra.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the Albanian authorities to take all the necessary measures in order to immediately allow Freddy Beleris to attend the work of the European Parliament, starting with its Plenary on July 16 in Strasbourg.
At the same time, he characterizes today’s decision as the “announced conclusion of a process with many question marks”.
“Today’s decision by the Central Electoral Commission of Albania to disqualify Freddy Beleris without even having sworn in the Mayor of Heimarra is a new practice and the foretold conclusion of a process with many question marks in relation to fundamental principles of the rule of law.
Greece had in time expressed its strong concern regarding the deprivation of the presumption of innocence, the integrity of the evidentiary process, the ban on swearing and the disproportionate penalty imposed, as well as the fact that the Municipality of Heimarra has been governed for one year by unauthorized persons .

Beleris: “The puzzle of Rama methods is completed”
At the same time, Fredis Beleris also gives an answer. “The puzzle of methods – inspired and executed from start to finish by Mr. Rama – was completed today. His plan from the beginning was that I would not be able to take up my duties as the elected Mayor of Heimarra,” he states, among other things.
And he continues: “To do this it took my coup arrest, a mock trial, with a prosecution witness who confessed to being paid by the Albanian police to testify falsely, a judge who is banned from entering Greece for forging documents and an appointed and not elected president of the Court of Appeal.
It took the violation of the presumption of innocence for whole months, it also took the violation of the European acquis, the violation of every concept of democratic principles with the “occupation” that followed in the Municipality of Heimarra.
In the Municipality, where the Republic won and then -unfortunately- was vilified to the highest degree”.
As he says, “the highlight is that I was given administrative permission to attend the announcement of my removal decision, while I was not given the corresponding permission to be sworn in as Mayor, creating a dangerous precedent for democratic institutions”.
And he concludes: “However, our fair fight will continue. We owe it to the Chimarrio people, we owe it to the Greeks, but we also owe it to the European citizens. To those, that is, who never accepted discounts in the Rule of Law and Democracy”.
