At the morning conference this Monday, July 1, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was questioned regarding the harshness with which the cartoonist ‘El Fisgón’ attacked the Morena supporters who reject the plurinominal seat that the actor Sergio Mayer will have within the movement, who they have accused of not being committed to the so-called Fourth Transformation (4T).

“I don’t have an opinion on that, I don’t have an opinion on these issues. I’m not objective because I love Rafael Barajas (‘El Fisgón’) very much, but let’s not get involved. I shouldn’t have an opinion, it’s for the best, I can’t be objective, Rafael Barajas has contributed a lot selflessly. He’s a first-class person and he’s also my friend, my friend, my friend (…) and I wish everyone the best and that they don’t fight,” AMLO said.

The president considered that far from seeking a division within the party, the best thing was to form a front once morest those who oppose the transformation of public life in Mexico. “And even then, if they fight with them, they should do so with political civility, without hating anyone, seeing them as adversaries, not as enemies. Love and peace,” added López Obrador.

At the same time, AMLO said that at this moment, everyone should be happy for what has been achieved throughout these six years of the 4T, and reiterated that he himself has had a month of happiness following Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory in the presidential elections, “I’m in bad shape, but I have a new engine, and the people are also very happy now, because they are empowered, the people,” he said with a laugh.

During the forum ‘The Latin American Left versus the Coup-Moving Right’, the cartoonist, who also serves as director of the National Institute of Political Training (INFP) of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), lashed out at activists who criticized actor Sergio Mayer Bretón for being a plurinominal candidate for the Chamber of Deputies.

“We have a number of people who are asking for the removal of a deputy they don’t like, who made some statements, I’ll just say one thing: It cost us a lot of work to get Plan C through, if we start to remove our own deputies, who the hell are we doing a favor to? It’s a stupidity the size of a cathedral. We have to strengthen ourselves, why are you throwing him out on the other side? Why do you justify that he can betray…we have to close ranks and it’s important to understand that we need to form a broad front once morest a project that is very hard, which is the neoliberal project,” said the well-known cartoonist.

This, in allusion to the fact that the actor and singer at the time distanced himself from the 4T due to his criticism of the Mayan Train and President López Obrador’s proposal to eliminate autonomous organizations. A little over a year ago, the future deputy visited the megaproject and assured that it was destroying the Mayan jungle, “you only see devastation, sad and regrettable to see the irreversible ecological damage,” he said on X on May 20, 2023; while on AMLO’s reform,

Faced with this situation, Morena militants exploded once morest Mario Delgado, national president of Morena, and Citlalli Hernández, general secretary of the party, for having nominated him following having ‘betrayed’ the transformation movement with his statements.
