MEXICO CITY (El Universal and EFE).— Former President Felipe Calderón warned yesterday that there will be “an announced death of the Republic in Mexico” and that the Judiciary will disappear in September.
Participating in the XVII Atlantic Forum “America and Europe: Democracy and Freedom” in Madrid, Spain, he predicted: “The threats continue, they increased and were strengthened by an absolute majority of votes with the announced death of the Republic, the disappearance in September of the Judiciary to be replaced by elected candidates, by militants loyal to the populist cause and the autonomous bodies.”
Calderón said that the threats continue following Claudia Sheinbaum won the elections, and stressed that the ruling party won the majority in the Chamber of Deputies and Senators, but they want to have 75% of control, by making “a deceitful interpretation of the Constitution.”
“They have a deceitful interpretation of the Constitution that seeks to give them a majority, since they will be given 75%, the majority voted for Claudia Sheinbaum, but that does not stop at pointing out the abuse,” he reiterated.
At the forum, he pointed out that the elections of June 2 were unfair and undemocratic, and that it was a State election. “The process was unfair, it was an election in which the State, all its strength, power and budget played in an undemocratic and unconstitutional way during the campaign,” he denounced.
They will participate in forums
Yesterday, in a statement, the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) reported that the ministers who make up the Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) and members of the CJF will participate in the open parliament forums of the Chamber of Deputies on the reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF) that will take place starting today, Thursday.
“It is essential that the judges who make up the Judicial Branch of the Federation express their opinion and be heard in the forums for the reform that will be discussed in the Legislative Branch,” he said.
Likewise, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, sent a video message via email to CJF workers in which she acknowledged that there is “uncertainty” regarding the judicial reform and in which she asked them to act with “unity and integrity,” and informed them that work is being done to defend their rights.
Also yesterday, Wednesday, workers from the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) closed the building of the Federal Labor Courts for Individual Matters, on the Picacho-Ajusco highway, due to the proposed judicial reform.
Rafael Carlos Quesada García, from the Tenth Federal Labor Court for Individual Affairs based in Mexico City, posted a circular on social media declaring the day as non-working, but a workable day, and therefore links were issued to access the hearings that may take place.
