Asuncion, IP Agency.- The director of the National Directorate of Tax Revenue (DNIT), Oscar Orué, highlighted the institution’s prominence in the management report of President Santiago Peña presented yesterday to Congress.
He said that the merger of the entities responsible for customs and tax collection was an objective even before the new government took office.
“During his campaign he promised not to raise taxes or create new taxes, so improving tax collection without those conditions was a huge challenge,” he said in an interview with Paraguay TV.
With the merger of the institutions, controls were improved, especially in the customs area, and the initial goal of collecting US$ 400 million was exceeded, reaching an increase of US$ 600 million in eleven months.
“We have changed procedures, we have established a 24-7 monitoring center for land cargo to river areas, we have reported cases of corruption, we have changed procedures, we have also fought once morest undervaluation,” he explained.
The DNIT is currently working on the formalization of the economy, with training on the tax system. Orué also mentioned the electronic invoicing project that allowed 71,000 people to be incorporated into the tax base this year.
