About Silvana Estrada and the Venezuelan influence on her music
The Mexican singer has stated in several interviews the Venezuelan influence in her music. In her voice, one can hear references to the tunes of the Venezuelan plains.
“I have a very deep love for Venezuelan music. I grew up listening to Simon Diaz, Soledad Bravo. I also listened to a lot of Christmas music from Venezuela. I didn’t know it was Christmas music, because my Christmas is more like carols or slow stuff. I had these records that I didn’t know were regarding Christmas from Venezuela and it’s celebratory music, the gaitas, wonderful!” said Estrada in an interview for Zona Pop CNN.
However, there is one singer-songwriter in particular that she enjoyed from a very young age, the one known in Venezuela as El tío Simón.
“I had several albums by Simón Díaz and they seemed so beautiful, so sad like (the song) Sabana. It just seemed like music that connected with me from a very deep and very honest place. And I think that’s why I have a lot, a lot of that,” he explained.
Awards and honours
In 2022, Silvana Estrada was recognized at the Latin Grammy Awards in the Best New Artist category, an award she shared with singer Ángela Álvarez.
The 27-year-old singer took the stage to address the audience with a few words, first thanking the Academy for the recognition and her team for their support.
She also stressed that the award is for all the artists nominated in the category.
Silvana Estrada’s artistic training is based on her parents, who gave her a love for music; her mother is a clarinetist and her father a double bass player. In addition, during her musical career she has promoted a discourse in favor of the feminist movement and the exaltation of women’s talent in different areas.
