Even the DeLorean DMC-12 has become an electric car

The Back to the Future movies immortalized the DeLorean, but the DMC-12 was never able to make John DeLorean’s dream come true. The sports car with a stainless steel body has now been made truly future-proof with an electric drive.

DeLorean went bankrupt before the Back to the Future movies made the futuristic sports car popular, but the manufacturer of the DMC-12 is still alive today. The DeLorean Motor Company manufactures replicas of the original, while Next Generation Motors, founded by John DeLorean’s daughter, is tasked with figuring out the future of the brand. Now we show you a DeLorean that was not made in these, but in a workshop in England.

Electrogenic has already transformed countless legendary models into purely electric drives, including icons such as the Citroën DS, Jaguar E-Type, the original Mini and the Porsche 356. And now the DeLorean DMC-12 has also been added to their range, and although the nothing is changed on the stainless steel body, the original 2.9-liter V6 engine with only 132 horsepower has been replaced with a modern electric drive.

Its power does not reach 1.21 gigawatts, although lightning is not required to charge it. What Doc and Marty wouldn’t have given for one of these!

The rear wheels of the electric DeLorean are driven by a 218 hp, 310 Nm torque engine, making the sports car revived

it accelerates to 100 km/h in five seconds, less than half the time of the gasoline-powered original.

The 43-kilowatt-hour battery pack was distributed in the front and the back, which does not seem large, but is still enough for a range of 240 kilometers. In addition, the electric DeLorean was only 40 kilos heavier than the petrol one.

Its modern electric drive also allowed the DeLorean to get an automatic start. The air conditioning system has been replaced with a more powerful one, Android Auto is an option, and external devices can be charged or operated from the charging port hidden under the rear license plate. You have to be a big fan to order it, because the price of Electrogenic’s work can reach 100,000 pounds, which is equivalent to more than HUF 45 million.
