Just six and a half weeks following fracturing his left forearm following being hit by JD Martinez’s bat

Sports.- The St. Louis Cardinals reinstated catcher Willson Contreras to the active roster, who He was on the injured list just before the start of the series of three games once morest the Atlanta Braves at Busch Stadium III.

Just six and a half weeks following fracturing his left forearmAfter being hit by JD Martinez’s bat in a game once morest the New York Mets on May 7, Contreras seems to be picking up where he left off.

“I’m happy to be back,” said Contreras, who played six rehab games at Triple-A Memphis. “I was supposed to be out longer, but I worked hard to get back, to get my mind in the right place and my family was always there to support me… I was a little anxious studying the film (before the game), but following the first pitch (from Lance Lynn) everything went well during the game, I calmed down.”

At the time of the accident, The right-handed hitter was the Cardinals’ most productive hitter with a .280 averagesix homers, 12 RBIs and a team-best .949 OPS in his first 31 games, a span in which his contributions were valued at 1.7 WAR (wins above replacement), according to Baseball-Reference.

Contreras, 32 years old, underwent surgery one day following the impact, a surgical procedure in which a titanium plate and screws were placed to provide stability to the area affected by the strong impact.

In a corresponding move, backup catcher Nick Raposo was sent back to Triple-A Memphis following being called up to the Majors to take the place of the injured Ivan Herrera. So Venezuelan rookie Pedro Pages will remain as Contreras’ primary replacement, at least until Herrera returns.

Despite his absence, Contreras appears fifth in the All-Star Game voting among National League catchers, with 247,286 electronic ballots. The selection is led by his younger brother William, of the Milwaukee Brewers, with 1,473,348 votes.

San Luis – which has won nine of its last 12 challenges– dawned this Tuesday with a balance of 40-37, five games behind the Brewers (46-36), leaders of the Eastern Division of the old circuit. So the arrival of Contreras strengthens the lineup of the red birds, in their attempt to hunt down Milwaukee.

“It was a challenge (to come back in less time than expected.) When I saw on social media that we were on a good run, especially when many people thought I would be out for the rest of the season. Of course, I respected the doctors’ decisionto do it at the right time,” Contreras said.
