Yifat Shasha Biton resigns from the Knesset: “taking a break from political life” | The full post

“Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to break forward. This is the time for me to do so”: Knesset member Yifat Shasha Biton from the state right announced today (Tuesday) that she is resigning from the Knesset and taking a break from political life. Shasha Beaton will be replaced next on the list, Michelle Busquila.

Shasha-Biton served as a member of the Knesset on behalf of Siot Kulanu, Likud, New Hope, the State Camp and the State Right. In the Bennet-Lapid government, she was the Minister of Education.

She was first elected to the Knesset in 2015. During the Corona period, when she was an MK from the Likud, she served as the chairman of the special committee in the Knesset, and made headlines many times due to the nationalist line she presented once morest the policy of closures.

After the dissolution of the Kulanu party led by Moshe Kahlon at the end of 2020, Shasha Biton joined Likud (which, as I recall, ran jointly with Kulanu). In the same year, with the retirement of Gideon Sa’ar from the Likud, she became a friend of him and joined with him a new hope party.

“I promised myself that as soon as I feel that I have no possibility and tools to influence, contribute and change reality, I will get up and go. I will not stay just ‘to stay on the wheel’ because I don’t believe in that,” she wrote.

“Unfortunately, the current political reality does not allow me to significantly influence, if at all, the path of the country. The months in which I sat in the cabinet and in the government sharpened my understanding, to what extent it is possible and necessary to conduct the war differently, on the front and in the rear. And I know that it is possible otherwise. But precisely in the face of this news, the feeling that in the current situation, my ability to influence is very limited is even more difficult.”

“Dr. Yifat Shasha-Biton is an exemplary member of the public: dedicated and caring, statesmanlike, serious and high-quality. In all her positions – kosher and as a member of the Knesset she worked with all her heart for the sake of the public,” wrote the chairman of the State Right Knesset member Gideon Sa’ar.

“I got to know her closely when she was impressive in her fight for the public in her position as the chairman of the Corona Committee. She was a great and loyal partner to me from the establishment of “Tikva Hadada” until today. A partner in unconventional decisions and in difficult times. Her dream was to become Israel’s Minister of Education and she fulfilled it. I Glad I had a part in that. She was the net minister of education who saw the children and the teachers.

“I’m sorry for her decision to take a break from political life. But as someone who himself made such a decision in the past – I understand to the core and respect her decision. Few have made a professional and political path as impressive and inspiring as Yifat. She comes from far away Kiryat Shmona (the pain of her evacuation has been burning in her flesh for the past year ) and broke every possible glass ceiling by the power of will and talent. Hi, beautiful! I believe and hope that you will return to serve the public and the country.”
