With the hope of building a country with greater opportunities for all through reading, the XXI edition of the International Book Fair in Guatemala (Filgua) will be held from July 4 to 14 at Fórum Majadas, zone 11.
The theme of honor from the fair will be the migration where economic, social, historical, cultural and artistic perspectives will be addressed. In addition to providing a space to discuss 500 years since the arrival of Europeans in Central America and delve deeper into the work of Miguel Ángel Asturias in the year of the 50th anniversary of his death.
The fair will be dedicated to the writer Francisco Pérez de Antón, Miguel Ángel Asturias National Literature Award 2011, recognized for his contribution to both the business world and the literary field with books such as The dream of the righteous, Dolores Alley and his most recent publication The murder of the magistrate.
Filgua Schedule 2024
The Guatemala International Book Fair will open on Thursday, July 4 at 9 a.m. at the Plazoleta de Fórum Majadas with the participation of government authorities, members of the Guatemalan Association of Editors, the diplomatic corps, exhibitors and the general public.
Starting July 4th, Filgua will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day except for Friday, July 12, when the midnight sale will take place and the hours that day will be from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m.
The authors who will be present for book signings during Filgua 2024 will be:
- Saturday 6th: BobiCraft at the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 10am.
- Saturday 6: Mariana Palova at the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 4 pm presents Bone moon.
- Saturday 6: Monica Lavin at the Miguel Angel Asturias Hall at 6 pm presents Tune of an old love.
- Sunday 7th: Gaby Pérez Islas in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 12 noon presents The death of love.
- Sunday 7th: David Pastor Vico in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 4 pm presents It was for idiots.
- Domingo 7: Francisco Perez de Anton presents How to cheat death in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 5 p.m.
- Sunday 7: Jay Sandoval presents Kim II theory in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 6 p.m.
- Friday 12th: Eva Muñoz presents the series “Pleasurable sins”: Lust, Lasciviousness in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Hall at 9 p.m.
- Saturday 13: Gloria Hernández presents the book Central American short narrative in the Humberto Ak’abal room at 4 p.m.
- Saturday 13th: Cristina Pérez presents Time to be reborn in the Humberto Ak’abal room at 5 p.m.
Location and tickets for Filgua 2024
The entrance to the Book Fair It will cost Q5 for adults, while admission will be free for children and seniors.
The meeting point will be at 27th Avenue, 6-50 zone 11 Fórum Majadas, Guatemala.

What is Filgua?
In 2000, the Guatemalan Publishers’ Association, concerned regarding the country’s low reading rates, considered the creation of a book fair as a solution that might provide positive experiences to Guatemalan readers.
Since 2008, the fair has been held year following year, consolidating itself at a national level. as a reference in the dissemination of knowledge and literary work from a broad perspective.
The fair promotes the exhibition of national and international authors and books, holds writers’ meetings, cultural events and works in spaces for children.
