Dr. José Rubiera, a renowned Cuban meteorologist, explained the future trajectory of Hurricane Beryl and its influence on Cuba.

The specialist reported on the trajectory and intensity of Hurricane Beryl, highlighting its possible impact on various regions of the Caribbean.

“It will bring tropical storm winds to the southern part of the Dominican Republic and the southern part of Haiti, there might even be some hurricane winds,” Rubiera said in YouTubehighlighting Beryl’s initial impact.

Rubiera on passage through Jamaica:

“It looks like it will cross the island of Jamaica on Wednesday and then continue west-northwest, with a certain tendency to the west, to affect the Cayman Islands, in the western Caribbean, before reaching the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on Thursday or Friday. We will have it there on Thursday, crossing Yucatan to then exit to the Gulf of Campeche,” he said.

In this regard, he confirmed the reliability of the trajectories projected for the first few days:

“In the first two days, three days, that is, the first 72 hours, there is a lot of agreement on the trajectories and they describe what I have told you. Crossing Jamaica on Wednesday and also Wednesday night or Thursday through Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands, and then on Friday arriving Thursday-Friday at the Yucatan Peninsula, crossing it and exiting at Campeche, the Gulf of Mexico.”

However, he warned of greater uncertainty once the hurricane enters the Gulf of Mexico.

Possible effects in Cuba

Using a simulated satellite, Rubiera showed the latest forecast, noting that “Beryl’s movement across Jamaica will bring rain not only to the eastern part of Cuba.” He also indicated that the hurricane might cross near the island of Grand Cayman in the next few hours.

Despite a gradual decline in her strength, Rubiera stressed that Beryl remains a significant threat:

“Even though it is diminishing in strength and should continue to diminish in strength gradually, it is still a threat because it is a hurricane. Even though it will not be a major hurricane when it reaches Grand Cayman, it will not be a major hurricane, but it will be a major hurricane and it is possible that it will even reach a major hurricane.”

“These are the conditions we have with Beryl,” Rubiera concluded, promising a daily update on the path and conditions of Hurricane Beryl.
