More than US$ 2.7 billion in works project to consolidate Paraguay as a regional logistics hub

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The management report presented by the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, summarizes the works that are being developed at a national level to consolidate Paraguay as a multimodal logistics hub of regional importance, taking advantage of its strategic location in the heart of South America.

To achieve this vision, a number of infrastructure initiatives and projects are being implemented. These include the improvement and expansion of road networks, the construction of international bridges, and investment in technology and logistical equipment for Border Centres.

Specific projects include the construction of access roads to the Integration Bridge, which make up the Eastern Metropolitan Corridor, and the construction of the Integrated Control Area in Presidente Franco, on the border between Paraguay and Brazil.

Other works connecting with Brazil are the Bioceanic Route Bridge in Carmelo Peralta, and the Sovereignty Route, from Pedro Juan Caballero to Ypejhú, recently awarded by the Government.

Key works for road strengthening and the addition of new connecting roads are the paving of Route PY22 from San Pedro through Belén to Concepción and the section from Villa del Rosario through Volendam to the junction of PY11.

The third section of the Bioceanic Route, in the Paraguayan Chaco, the access to Puerto Indio and the PY12 from Chaco’i to General Bruguez, are other fundamental works that are already in process.

In addition, the contract for the improvement and duplication of Route PY01 is currently being awarded through a public-private partnership.

Crucial projects in the process of management

Crucial projects are also being managed for the preparation of their tenders, such as the PY05 Route from Pozo Colorado to Concepción, the construction of Integrated Control Areas (ACI) on the Paraguay-Argentina border, located in Puerto Falcón, and the improvement of PY09 from Cerrito to the Remanso Bridge.

There are also plans to build a new bridge with Argentina, located in Pilar – Puerto Cano, the improvement of PY20 from Pilar to the access to Cerrito, the Rice Route, from Concepción, passing through Vallemí and ending in San Lázaro.

The completion of the two pending phases of the Pilar Coastal Defense, with financing already secured, as well as the concession for the maintenance of Routes PY19, PY03, PY06 and PY07, and project 5074 of PY10 from Paso Yobai to Tuna are other works in progress.

These works are joined by two major iconic integration projects: the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway and the new Silvio Pettirossi Airport.

These and many other projects represent a total investment of over 2.7 billion dollars in infrastructure that will not only improve connectivity and access to various markets, but also strengthen regional integration and the competitiveness of local companies, the report highlights.
