Marinakis on Samaras and Karamanlis: We do not comment on the statements of former prime ministers, we heard the message of the European elections – 2024-07-04 06:22:54

The statements of the two former prime ministers, Antonis Samaras and Costas Karamanlis, were commented on by the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, one day following their speeches at the War Museum, in which they launched attacks on the policy followed by the New Democracy of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Mr. Marinakis, who was yesterday at the War Museum representing the government, speaking at noon on SKAI radio, noted, among other things, when speaking regarding the speech of Antonis Samaras, he said that “it is not common, but we do not comment on the speeches of former prime ministers”. At the same time, he noted that the visit of Mitsotakis to Laikoto at the time of the event does not coincide, stressing that “a year ago we received a very strong mandate, we are implementing a program that at the end of the four years will improve everyday life and we will be judged for this, this is what interests the world”.

Referring to the results of the European elections, he said that it is wrong to compare them with the elections, but it is true that there was a discrepancy between the result and the goals that had been set. “We received the citizens’ messages,” said Mr. Marinakis.

“The strategy of the planned enlargement, with respect to the principles and values of the faction is paying off,” said the government representative, among other things. He also cited examples of non-parliamentarians who were subsequently tested on the cross and approved by the citizens, such as Pierrakakis, Chrysochoidis and Theodorikakos.

Referring to the votes to the right of the ND, Mr. Marinakis said that the reasons behind these choices must be found, citing the need to find faster solutions to citizens’ problems in matters such as security, accuracy, etc.

Referring to the composition of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he said that the vast majority are parliamentary officials and perennial officials of the faction. He spoke of 15 non-parliamentary executives who have left the government in recent years, following the work they delivered. “Society is concerned if a minister makes what he is called to implement a reality,” he said characteristically.

“How many hires has he said you will make, Mr. Minister of Health, 6,500? You will be judged in the end. And the upgrading of the ASEP is coming to contribute in this direction”, he said characteristically. “We want a solid group, that listens to the citizens and looks ahead”, he pointed out.

Regarding the criticism received by the government on national issues, Mr. Marinakis clarified that he has denied that a shepherd has been evicted from a rock island in Astypalaia for ecological reasons, as Mr. Samaras mentioned.

He then said that the Greece of retreat in 2019 gave way to a Greece of pride. “No prime minister would call for the demilitarization of the islands,” he said and added that “as Kyriakos Mitsotakis has emphasized, the only disagreements with Turkey are the EEZ and the continental shelf.”

Regarding immigration, he said let’s see what is happening on the islands in relation to the rest of Europe. “We accept tourists and not illegal immigrants anymore,” he said.

“I won’t say if I was bothered by a’ or b’. We do not comment on the statements of a former prime minister, I have been in New Democracy since I was a child. We will continue for the rest of the four years to get tangible results. I can’t label specific policies as right-wing. University security has always been considered a right-wing policy, or the implementation of a fairer Criminal Code,” he said. “I call all this responsible politics. The New Democrats, as well as those who wish to come and find us, always agree on this.”
