At the end of May, the news that Peruvian influencer Oscar Curi had lost his life at just 20 years old following trying street food in India spread like wildfire. Within just a few hours, his social media profiles were filled with messages of farewell and condolences for his loved ones.
This content creator publishes vlogs of his travels and tells the curiosities he discovers while traveling through Thailand, Bangladesh or Pakistan. In one of his latest videos on TikTok, which has nearly 90 million views, he might be seen in a hospital bed while recovering from what appeared to be food poisoning. From then on, he stopped giving any signs and different media outlets in his country reported him dead. An image of the supposed funeral even went viral.
This Sunday, the TikToker posted a new publication in which he made it clear: “I am alive. Please do not think that I am dead. I hope you understand the situation.” Curi has preferred not to give many details because “it is a private matter and many already know what I am referring to.” In the comments, his followers assure that the young man might have lost his mother. “Life goes on, life is like that,” he adds. He has also asked that “they do not publish things that are not true. There are those who say that I died in an accident, burned or that I was kidnapped. I do not know why they make up those things,” he points out and thanks “all those messages of support. I say goodbye from Lima, my homeland,” he concludes.
