Popular butcher shop put up for sale

Recent years have been particularly tough, as rising energy prices and high inflation have meant that several butcher shops have had to turn the key.

In 2012 there were 285 butcher shops nationwide – today there are 210 left.

And now you can stay longer as a butcher if you live on Mors.

Initially, however, Ole and Tove Jensen have chosen to put the business Erslev Slagter up for sale.

– We think we have a good business, and with the location in the middle of Mors, we cover a large area. So we hope that some are interested in taking over, says Ole Jensen.

For now, the couple hopes that an interested buyer will appear within six months.

– If there isn’t an interested buyer before the new year, we have a new situation, and then we have to get hold of plan B, but we don’t really want to go for it. This means that we have to close the business, says Ole Jensen, who not much to talk regarding that possibility.

– We have had the store for exactly 40 years, and we are happy with it, but we are starting to get a little gray around the edges. And even though we are happy, we also need fresh energy, he says.

By the way, there were 13 dedicated butcher shops in Mors when the couple took over the business in Erslev. Today there are two left.

Trim the business

Erslev Slagter has eight employees – previously there were up to 12 – but Ole Jensen says that they are trying to trim the shop in relation to a sale.

– We have had difficulty saying no, and the business has spread. Right now we are trimming the business so that a buyer can decide for himself what he would like to bet on, says Ole Jensen.

According to Danske Slagtermestre, which is part of Food Denmark, there are currently three butcher shops for sale. In addition to Erslev Slagter, there is Slagter Lund in Middelfart and Slagter Lars at Frederiksberg in Copenhagen.

Danske Slagtermestre normally advises that you spend a few years disposing of a business.

Tove and Ole Jensen were respectively 19 and 20 years old when they took over the business in Erslev.
