Until yesterday, three remained without drinking water fire-stricken communities of the Municipality of Erymanthos, following the devastating fire of June 21. Its inhabitants Journeymanher Roupakias and her Agia Varvara they still do not have drinking water, as the measurements taken on a daily basis show traces of pathogens, due to the destruction suffered by the water supply network from the high temperatures that developed.

The mayor of Erymanthos Theodoros Baris he told “Peloponnisos” that the damage to the water supply network has been repaired, but it will take a few more days of chlorination to make the water safe for drinking.

At the same time, electricity has been restored by DEDDIE, but other interventions will be needed to restore the infrastructure, while animal feed is available free of charge for the affected farmers.

Disaster declarations have been made by approximately 100 affected people who lost livestock units or crops, while the municipality is waiting to receive 8 huts for the housing of respective families whose homes were destroyed. These are 7 families from Kalfa and 1 from the settlement of Ano Mastrantonis.

The mayor added that the Forestry Department is also expected in the area today to record the damage and the areas that need anti-flood interventions.

The deputy governor of Achaia Fokion Zaimis he emphasized to “P” that the difficulties in dealing with the fire were great for the fire brigade, due to the strong natural phenomena and the relief of the area.

The unfortunate thing is that the drinking water network was damaged, said Mr. Zaimis, and that is why even today it is not suitable for drinking, which is why three settlements are supplied with bottled water. Mr. Zaimis recommended a little more patience, as with the correct chlorination that is being done now, the water will soon be drinkable once more.

At the same time, the deputy governor thanked many individuals who rushed to help with the offer.

It should be noted that the function of the lungs of the residents of Erymanthia was checked by a health team of the Region of Western Greece that visited the area the day before yesterday. Specifically, the Deputy Governor of Public Health, Anna Mastorakou and the staff of the Directorate of Public Health PDE, Nikolaos Barabatis, physician-pulmonologist, head of the Health Services and Professions Department and Evangelos Papadopoulos, nurse, head of the Prevention and Health Promotion Department, visited the village of Kalfa with the mobile unit of the Region of Western Greece.
