We are moving toward a ban on the use of cell phones in classrooms at preschool and elementary schools. “In the Ministry’s guidelines for the next school year, with reference to Civic Education, which will be issued within two weeks, the use of cell phones in classrooms will be strongly discouraged,” explained the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, in an interview with Il Messaggero, “however, we are evaluating the inclusion of a real ban for elementary and middle schools. We are always talking regarding the use of cell phones, not tablets, in the classroom and not at school.”
Already in 2022, a circular had reiterated a ban that had already been in place since 2007 for nursery and elementary schools, except for educational purposes. The next guidelines will continue along this path, tightening the restrictions on the use of electronic devices in classrooms by the youngest children. Valditara also underlined the success of the meeting with his G7 colleagues held in Trieste: «There is an Italian way to public education and it was appreciated at the G7».
