Blessed Mykolay Charnetsky was born on December 14, 1884 in the village of Semakivtsi, which belongs to the Horodenkiv district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He was a Redemptorist monk, a bishop, a missionary and a new martyr. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to the service of God and people. His prayers and spiritual guidance were a great support for the faithful.

In 1931, he was ordained a bishop (apostolic visitor) for Catholics of the Eastern Rite in Volyn and Polissia. He was the first Redemptorist to receive such a high rank. During the Stalinist repressions, he ended up in the Gulag, but he did not betray his convictions. On April 2, 1959, Blessed Mykolay Charnetsky died in Lviv.
