After receiving the award, the Venezuelan advised PNL that she is an “immigrant lady who needed to depart her nation. You by no means anticipate to obtain an award like this. It has been a tough highway each professionally and personally. I am very grateful”.
Calzadilla is at present editor-in-chief of Factchequeado, a platform devoted to combating misinformation in Spanish-speaking communities in the USA.
The Venezuelan journalist has labored in Venezuela and the US, and has confronted hostile circumstances to defend reality and transparency.
Her investigative reporting in Venezuela confirmed instances of corruption and human rights violations, which is why she was compelled to flee the nation in 2015 as a result of growing authorities repression.
