Iraq – The official Iraqi Information Company reported yesterday, Friday, that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani welcomed the UN Safety Council’s choice to finish the mandate and duties of the United Nations Help Mission for Iraq.
Iraqi authorities spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi stated, “The Iraqi authorities expresses its welcome and appreciation for Safety Council Decision No. (2734), which was unanimously issued in the present day, terminating the mandate and duties of the United Nations Help Mission for Iraq/UNAMI, in keeping with a timetable that ends on December 31, 2025.”
He added: “The top of the mission’s work in Iraq comes on the request of the Iraqi authorities, which was expressed within the letter of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani dated Might 8, 2024, addressed to the Secretary-Common of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the UN Safety Council on this regard.”
