Exhibition “Homo Vikšraitis” for the anniversary of the photographer Rimaldos Vikšraitis Tradition

This exhibition is devoted to the photographer’s seventieth birthday.

In accordance with the well-known pictures curator and author Adam Mazur, Rimaldas Vikšraitis is the issue of Lithuanian pictures. The truth is, not solely Lithuanians, however extra broadly – Central Europeans. A caterpillar is a misunderstood freak, an everlasting outsider, an unruly eccentric. It’s simpler to dismiss and marginalize it than to know it. It is simpler to sneer from above than to see from the writer’s perspective. It’s extra handy to reward achievements and speak platitudes regarding dignity than to rigorously examine new photos and cycles.

Vikšraitis’s politically incorrect and visually uncomfortable pictures is a second of insanity within the coherent and chic narrative of pictures historians, theorists and critics. Vikšraitis treats pictures as a method of expression, however he’s not afraid to face in entrance of the digital camera and reveal his place (get bare within the true sense of the phrase). It’s a recording of society’s life, solely on the aircraft of phantasmagoria, or maybe hallucination…

Krauss, following Graham, normally examined any extra by making use of a semiotic sq., connecting a selected phenomenon with a corresponding class with a dotted line. Nonetheless, Vikšraitis’s place appears completely different, and pushing this photographer “to the facet” doesn’t mirror the specifics of his work. Thus, we come to the conclusion that it must be written within the very center, on the intersection of the traces marking the opposites written within the semantic area.
