Iraq – The Iraqi youth national team seeks to start preparations early for the qualifiers for the Asian Youth Cup, with a busy schedule of matches.
The managing director of the Iraqi youth team, Nadeem Kari, said, “The Iraqi youth team begins work from now on the Asian qualifiers, as it seeks to secure the largest possible number of trial matches in order to try out the largest possible number of players, whether local or professional.”
He added, “The Iraqi youth team will play two friendly matches with its Omani counterpart in Baghdad, as it was officially agreed between the Iraqi and Omani federations to hold the two matches in Baghdad on the 2nd and 5th of next June, as these two matches will be very important for the players’ preparation.”
He continued, “The Omani team will come to Baghdad on the 31st of May and will leave on the 6th of next June following the end of the two confrontations, as all logistical matters have been prepared, including the team’s residence and other matters, so that we can host our brothers in the best possible way.”
He noted that “the Iraqi Federation will not be satisfied with holding only two matches for the youth team, as we have invited the Jordanian and Tajik Federations to play two friendly matches as well. Initial approval has been obtained from the two federations and work is underway to finalize the agreement,” according to Winwin.
She continued, “The matches will be played in one round in each country, and an invitation has been sent to the countries wishing to host the groups,” noting that “the ages of the players who are eligible to participate in the qualifiers are from those born on January 1, 2005 to those born on December 31, 2007.” .
The Iraqi youth team, which was transferred to the Olympic team, succeeded in winning the runner-up position in the U-20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan 2023 and also qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Argentina in the same year.
