In his column published in the daily Het Laatste Nieuws, RTL political journalist Christophe Deborsu addresses our compatriots in the North, by throwing a few flowers… to the PS. “In the eyes of many Walloons, Georges-Louis Bouchez represents a greater danger for Flanders and Belgium than all the socialists of the PS combined,” writes the Namurois.
“I am journalist. I am not the spokesperson for the Socialists, I would also be expelled from the Boulevard de l’Empereur (where the PS headquarters are located in Brussels, Editor’s note) following five minutes. But I tell you: don’t be afraid of the PS”, begins our colleague from the private channel in his column for HLN.
To support his remarks, Christophe Deborsu highlights the results of the quantified evaluation of political priorities carried out by the Planning Office, according to which the electoral program of the PS would be the least damaging to state finances, following that of the N-VA. Nothing surprising according to the political journalist, who recalls that it was the Dehaene-Di Rupo government which carried out the consolidation of public finances in the nineties to allow Belgium to enter the euro zone.
Christophe Deborsu also points out the fact that at present, all the finance ministers are liberals, with the exception of the Flemish Matthias Diependaele (N-VA). And yet, the country’s finances are in the red, he points out.
Between bad luck and waste of time
“The PS is a serious party,” Deborsu still asserts, even if it should have flown more quickly and more efficiently to the aid of Wallonia, he concedes. However, this is also due, according to him, to a certain bad luck He cites in particular Guy Spitaels, young Walloon minister-president forced to resign following the Agusta affair “This charismatic character understood better than anyone that Wallonia needed shock therapy.” our colleague from RTL, who also points out the premature departure of Paul Magnette, “another socialist star”, from the Walloon minister-presidency in 2017 following the famous Trafalgar coup of the cdH “Another waste of time. does not need fewer PS, it needs the best socialists,” believes Christophe Deborsu.
What regarding the famous four-day week without loss of salary, acclaimed by the PS but which causes cold sweats in Flanders? “You and I are doing the jobs of our dreams. But as (Paul) Magnette points out in his latest book, there also exists “the other half of the world”: people who do not have decent jobs. They must also be taken into account.”
“Socialist pragmatists”
Finally, Christophe Deborsu reminds the Flemings that the PS proved in 2020 that it was capable of concluding an agreement with the N-VA. An agreement torpedoed by Egbert Lachaert (president of the Open VLD at the time, Editor’s note) and “especially Bouchez”, writes the journalist. “Moreover, in the eyes of many Walloons, GLB represents a greater danger for Flanders and Belgium than all the socialists of the PS combined, with its guerrilla practices once morest everything and anyone, the latest being wanting to launch a commission of inquiry once morest Tinne Van der Straeten while Parliament is dissolved.”
“What matters now is that the PS remains the “Pragmatic Socialists”, the adjective that has made this country great since 1830,” concludes Christophe Deborsu.
