Ostapenko will meet with Slovakia Sramkova in Rome

The match is scheduled to start at 16:00 Latvian time.

Ostapenko is ranked tenth in the WTA rankings and seeded ninth for the tournament, while Sramkova is ranked 120th.

Previously, they met twice and each of the tennis players had one victory. In 2015, in the semi-finals of the tournament in Kraichlingen, the Slovakian won with a score of 7-6 (7:2), 7-6 (9:7), and in the 2019 Fed Cup match with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (5: 7), Ostapenko had a 6-1 advantage.

The Latvian tennis player was free from the first round, in the second round match she beat Russian Anastasia Potapova (WTA 43) with a score of 6-4, 6-2, and in the 1/16 finals – Spanish Sara Sorribes-Tormo (WTA 47) with a score of 6 -4, 5-7, 6-1.

For Shramkova this will be the sixth match on the courts of Rome this year.

Ostapenko has won eight WTA singles titles in her career, two of them this year. In January, she won the WTA 500 series tournament in Adelaide, and in February, the WTA 500 series tournament in Linz.

Shramkova has no victories in the WTA singles tournament yet.

Ostapenko is playing in Rome for the ninth time, having reached the semi-finals last year, while Sramkova is playing here for the first time. She started this year with ITF tournaments, winning the Porto ITF W-40 competition in January and February. At major tournaments she played mainly in qualifications.

The Latvian number one is also participating in the doubles tournament in Rome along with Ukrainian Lyudmila Kichenok.
